Exhibition: Mandela Day Block Art Exhibition - 2019

Mandela Day is held annually worldwide to honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s former President, through volunteering and community service. Celebrated each year on 18 July, Mandela’s birthday, it is a call to action that celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world and the ability to make an impact. Because Mandela fought for social justice for 67 years, people volunteer 67 minutes of their time to fight poverty and promote peace, reconciliation and cultural diversity.

This year I participated in the Mandela Day Block Art Exhibition hosted by The Studio Art Gallery in Simonstown. They run an annual fundraising auction/exhibition and this year they facilitated a 67-minute silent auction at the opening event.

This year’s beneficiary for the Mandela Day Block Art Exhibition is iThemba School. The school is situated on the edge of Fish Hoek, close to both Masiphumelele and Ocean View. iThemba provides quality pre-primary education for under-resourced communities.

Some of the work available at the auction/exhibition, together with my submissions, "The Spaces Between", "Eleven" and "Ebb & Flow"...
