Discarded Souls

"I know what it feels like to be a discarded soul..."

There was a bit of a commotion on my deck one morning as I heard what sounded like a bunch of birds arguing. I opened my front door and a baby dove came charging towards me and ran inside looking very scared. I gathered it up and it sat huddled quietly on my lap for ages while I figured out what to do with it.

A little baby bird, kicked out from the nest. Discarded. I know what it feels like to be discarded. In this little one I had found a kindred spirit.

I hand reared it for 9 days and then on the 10th day it was ready to fly off. I did not see it for a few days after that and I was sad that it was gone. But then I spotted it 3 days later in my garden and it now visits daily and spends most of the day foraging and hanging out in my garden.

Over the last few weeks there has not been much that has been able to touched me... but seeing my little bird visit my garden daily has. For that gift I am grateful.
