Exhibition: Reverie Social Table - 2015

When an opportunity presents itself, try with all your might to grab it with both hands!

My dear and magical friend Claire Gunn contacted me recently to offer me an opportunity to exhibit at a new restaurant that was due to open in a few days’ time. A bit of a last minute request and panic, but ta-da… I had a solo exhibition in the works. I spent some late nights preparing and packing prints, making hanging systems and lots of running around back and forth to my printers, but within 3 days I had 46 prints hung along 5 metres of wall. It was with some wonder that I stood back and looked at my body of work on the wall. I was grateful for soul friends and opportunities.

Reverie Social Table is a proudly South African table d’hôte style eatery located in the quirky neighbourhood of Observatory, Cape Town. The focus is on social dining, where guests are invited to sit around a 18-seater table and enjoy a five course meal exclusively created for them, accompanied by carefully selected wines. Guests are encouraged to put away their cell phones and engage with one another. Perfect for those who love food, wine and great company.

Opening evening was a media launch for the restaurant and this sure put the concept of social dining into action for me. Other than my new friend, the chef patron Julia Hattingh, I did not know any of the other people at the event. Yet, I spent a wonderful evening chatting and getting to meet new people - learning much about the foodie scene in Cape Town.

My work will be on display and for sale at Reverie Social Table for a few weeks. Reverie is open Monday to Saturday as follows:

Morning coffee from 11h00, and lunch served from 12h00 to 15h00. Dinner starts at 7pm for 7:30pm to 23h00.

To book a spot at the social table go to the Reverie website. A booking is charged at R700 per person and includes a 5 course meal with wine pairing. By day Reverie welcomes you to relax, make use of the free wi-fi and tuck into the plate du jour; whatever has inspired Chef Julia that morning.
